The Indigenous peoples of Canada have been dealing with the problem of waste disposal for centuries. In many parts of Alberta, local communities rely on traditional practices to manage waste, often relying on methods that are much more respectful of the environment than those employed by industrialized countries. Indigenous groups also tend to prioritize recycling and reusing over simply disposing of excess materials; this mindset has important implications for how sustainable waste management could be approached in the future. Unfortunately, this approach does not always meet modern demands as populations continue to grow and consume resources at unprecedented rates. It is critical that Indigenous People’s voices and perspectives are represented in discussions about coping with ever-increasing amounts of waste. Their insights can help foster healthier relationships between human and natural systems.
Quest Disposal & Recycling Inc provides numerous services including environmental, waste management, recycling, and site support. We understand that we have an impact both on the environment and the Native land of the Indigenous communities of Alberta, British Columbia, and N.W.T..
